How the two modes work

In "percent off" mode, this calculator multiplies the original price by (1 − discount %) to get the sale price, and the difference between the two is your savings. In "original + sale price" mode, it works backward — dividing the amount saved by the original price — to tell you what percentage discount a sale price actually represents, which is handy when a receipt shows the final price but not the percentage off.
